Day At The Zoo..

Brad and I had the day off together so we headed to the zoo. I was giving Brad a hard time a couple of days before we went that he was too excited about it and kept asking if he was reliving his childhood. Truth be told we both really enjoy going to the zoo and seeing all of the different animals. The cooler the weather outside the more active the animals are. November is a perfect time to check them out.

When you pay your ticket to get into the zoo they give you these zoo quarters. With these quarters you can choose where some of the money goes for different animals. I always pay for the orangutans because I love the primates. Here they had the peacock roaming around the entrance. I wanted to get a picture of Bradley and the bird..this was as close as he would get because it made him nervous. Don't blame him because birds can be mean.

Peacock trying to get inside because it was cold..

Zebra bum..
It was the day of animal butts.

He posed for me..

He kept getting more and more droopy..

Bradley and the python..

Very pretty python..

Bradley sitting as close as he would to the python..

The python was very interested in me..
he moved right up to the glass and was sticking out his tongue.

Python coming to check me out..

One of the best things about the zoo is when the animals have babies. I think this year there was about 4-5 different animals that had babies. These creatures always have so much energy and are fun to watch playing. Below are a couple different animals that had babies. This was the main reason that Bradley was wanting to go to the zoo so bad.

Sloth bear..
He was so cute and fuzzy.

Must be a treat in there..

Libby and Brad watching the bears..

Half way through our trip at the zoo we decided that we would stop at the cafeteria to get lunch. Brad thought it was funny that I was excited about the taco bar.

Here I am standing in line to figure out what I am wanting on my taco..

The next place that we headed was the jaguar. This is one of our favorite animals to go and look at when we are at the zoo. They are so beautiful. This year the jaguar had 3 little kitties. Too cute.

Yawning baby..

That yawn was contagious because the mama had to do it next. It is so scary to see how large their mouths actually are. They could easily eat you for dinner.

This was my favorite picture of the day.

Mama and her babies..

She was looking right at me..

There was a whole reptile house that we didn't even know existed. We were excited to go in there because it was a little chilly outside. So many cool animals inside there.

Bradley loved this baby turtle. He said that it was the most adorable thing that he had ever seen. Those are not words that he says lightly :)

Photos don't do this snake justice. It was very pretty and looked like it's scales were made up of spilled oil. He is on temporary display so I am glad we decided to head in there to see it.

Bradley getting as close as he would to the snake. Even though there is glass between him and the snakes he had a hard time getting near them.

I took a picture of this snake because it had the same name as Bradley..
He was very active and flipping his tongue out.

Some type of a rattlier. Not going to lie..this one freaked me out a little bit.

Bradley next to the crocodile..
They are not pretty.

Tree frogs are very wise..

Another big snake. He didn't really move but his eyes were following me around while I was getting photos of it.

Brad checking out the huge snake.

Once again Bradley didn't want to get to close to the snake.
I just couldn't convince him..

Now this is my absolute favorite part of the zoo. The gorillas are just so awesome and smart. Love to see how human like they are..most entertaining animals.

This is the mama gorilla. She is actually the same age as me :)

This is the youngest one. She is too smart for her own good and full of energy.

Sitting on her log..

Swinging on the branches and ropes..
Our theory is that she was scoping out where the bull was at.

The log that she always is sitting when we see her. Right after this she was hitting the log and started to jump on it.

SNAP!!!
Oh crap..

She carried the log away from the crime scene and was studying it..

Trying to break it into smaller pieces..

Not able to break it into smaller pieces she was watching out for the big bull to come around..

The bull came over and examined where it had broken off..
there was no gorillas near him while he was checking it out.

Sitting with the log trying to figure out what to do. She was very antsy, walking around with her hand on her head trying to figure out what she was going to do. In the end she ended up putting that log in the corner and hiding the evidence that it had happened.  Like I had said before..they are too smart!

It was starting to get dark and close to closing time. We hadn't seen the part of the zoo that the bears lived in so we decided to quickly run over there. Good thing that we decided to do that because we were able to see the snow leopard. Out of the three times that we have gone to the zoo this was the first time that we were able to see her.

Snow leopard dipping a bone in her water bowl..

Bradley pulling a face at me..

The wallaby stopped and posed for Brad's camera. As soon as the picture was taken he turned and walked away. What a good sport.

Great advice but did it really have to be posted?

Bradley looking at the otters that had just gone to bed in their den..

Bradley standing by the bear. That last time we were here this bear was really stressed out because there was a concert that was going to start and the music was getting to him. Glad to see him as a happy bear.

Final picture of the night. The zoo closes at 5 and by that time in Seattle the suns has started to set. We have both decided that it is creepy at the zoo when it is closing. No one around, animals going to bed, getting dark and slightly windy.

I am thinking that we are just needing to get yearly passes to the zoo. Every time we go there it is like a different experience. Going in the winter time is also the time to go. The animals are more active and you get to see a lot more of them. After we left the zoo Brad was giving me a hard time because I had a blast and also because of how much I was making fun of him all week.

That looks like a very cool zoo - even if the gorillas do moon you. :-)
